#5: Serve

Matthew 5:16

In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

There are certain things in this world that we sort of just expect. I can expect that when I give instruction to my daughter that don’t align with her hopes and dreams, I will get a massive eyeroll. When I am walking though the commons on a Sunday morning, I can expect that I will joyfully engage in conversation, and if I am on a mission to complete an urgent task, I should probably find another way around. Sometimes, it is what we do not expect that speaks the loudest. Like a neighbor showing up to help move furniture when flood waters are rising or the stranger pushing your car out of high water.

The unexpected is contrast, a light in the darkness, and it speaks volumes, it plants seeds and puts the expected into perspective. How you serve those around you will tell a story, a story that begun in creation, actualized in the incarnation, and realized on the cross.  Now, it plays out in our lives, in our love for brother, sister, and stranger. If the story started with HIM, who took on the “very nature of a servant” (Philippians 2:7) then the story we tell in our service ought to reflect this unexpected nature, and tell HIS unexpected story. TO GOD BE THE GLORY

RELFECTION:

Who are you intentionally serving and what truth do your actions speak?
