New Year’s Challenge: The Wesleyan Covenant Renewal Prayer

by | Jan 22, 2024 | 2024 | 0 comments

This is the time of year where we mysteriously “lose” the sheet of paper that had our new year’s resolutions. If you are still going strong, you’re better than me.

Though we may have moved on, God is not done with the process of making us new; of strengthening our faith and allegiance to him while rejecting the enemies attempts at corrupting the soul.

Wesley recognized the need for constant renewal when he wrote the Wesleyan Covenant Renewal Prayer. It convicts the heart and challenges our motives.

For the next couple weeks, I want to break down the prayer and let it challenge the attitudes of our missional hearts. I want you to begin by simply reading through the prayer 3 times

  • 1st time – simply understand what is being said
  • 2nd time – read with a mindset to reflect on what it means to you
  • 3rd time – pray it to God and ask him to grow you in these areas

“Put me to what thou wilt, rank me with whom thou wilt.

Put me to doing, put me to suffering.

Let me be employed by thee or laid aside for thee,

exalted for thee or brought low for thee.

Let me be full, let me be empty.

Let me have all things, let me have nothing.

I freely and heartily yield all things

to thy pleasure and disposal.

And now, O glorious and blessed God,

Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,

thou art mine, and I am thine. So be it.

And the covenant which I have made on earth,

let it be ratified in heaven.

Amen.”

What specifically stand out to you?

Which area is a stretch for you?

Next week, we will begin breaking it down and processing the prayer for our missional lives.

I am very excited to begin this journey with you in 2024.
